The PM has reportedly told the CBI today that she is aware that business doesn’t want to ‘fall off the cliff edge’ when we leave the EU and she is prepared to consider an interim agreement which will alleviate the effects.
I find this interesting for a few reasons:
- She know it is a cliff edge we are running towards, but still thinks it’s best to carry on running
- She thinks she has any power to set up an interim agreement – it will depend on what the EU want not us
- Normally she won’t give anything away because she doesn’t want to weaken her hand in negotiations – doesn’t telling the EU we want an interim deal weaken her hand?
