Subverting the ‘will of the People’

As we get to the critical end of the brexit process it seems the only thing the leave side of the argument have left when pushing through with leaving the EU is ‘the will of the people’ which was expressed in the referendum over 2 years ago.

Well, I’m sick of hearing about the will of the people.

The only thing the leave side won was the right to deliver the view of Post Brexit Britain that they promised during the referendum. That didn’t involve food shortages or loss of rights for EU citizens living in this country. It also didn’t involve loosing thousands of jobs in manufacturing as supply chains are disrupted.

I hear prominent leave campaigners say, ‘people know what they were voting for – the remain campaign spelt out that we would leave the single market and customs union’. They don’t seem to get that pointing out what the opposition said – the opposition which lost – is not relevant. They promised a deal where we would be better off and have more money to spend on domestic services instead of sending it to the EU. If they don’t deliver that there is no ‘will of the people’ at all.
